This is a claim we regularly hear in today's culture. But is it true?
We dug into some history and found the original draft of the Declaration of Independence. Written by Thomas Jefferson, it clearly answered our question.
Yet, something tells us they aren't showing this draft of the Declaration in history class.

Their claim? America's founding date is not 1776, but 1619 when enslaved Africans were brought to Jamestown and sold to the colonists.
So, is it a straight-up lie, a half-truth or fact?
Nathaniel and Christopher from Good Repot News investigate this claim in the first of three episodes on slavery in America.
Let's put it this way, we don't think the New York Times would be pleased with what we found in the annals of history.
